S&P Global Ratings Launches Digital Asset Vault Risk Tool
S&P Global Ratings unveiled its Vault Risk Assessment framework to bring independent risk transparency to onchain investment vehicles.
S&P Global Ratings introduced a new analytical framework called the Vault Risk Assessment on Monday, targeting the growing market for onchain investment vehicles in the decentralized finance space. The Singapore-based announcement marks a formal expansion of the ratings giant's footprint into digital asset infrastructure.
The Vault Risk Assessment, or VRA, is designed to deliver independent risk transparency for products built on blockchain networks. By applying structured analysis to onchain vehicles, S&P Global aims to give institutional and retail participants a standardized basis for evaluating exposure in a segment that has historically lacked consistent third-party oversight.

The launch signals a broader push by S&P Global, traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SPGI, to extend its traditional credit and risk assessment methodologies into decentralized markets. Whether the VRA framework will gain traction among DeFi protocols and their users remains to be seen, but the move underscores how mainstream financial infrastructure firms are treating digital assets as a durable asset class rather than a speculative fringe.
